 The Jharkhand Eligibility Test (JET) 2024, conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) under Advertisement No. 08/2025, is a prestigious state-level examination that determines the eligibility of candidates for appointment as Assistant Professors and for Ph.D. admissions in universities and colleges across Jharkhand. The exam serves as the state’s equivalent of the UGC-NET, following the same structure and purpose but specific to Jharkhand’s higher education institutions. This year’s JET is particularly significant as it is being held after a long gap, offering a major opportunity for postgraduate aspirants who aim to secure teaching or research positions in government and affiliated colleges. The JET certificate awarded to qualified candidates remains valid for life, ensuring enduring eligibility for academic recruitment and research pursuits within the state.

The JPSC JET 2024 examination pattern comprises two papers, both conducted in a single session of three hours in offline (OMR-based) mode. Paper I is a general paper on Teaching and Research Aptitude, designed to test candidates’ comprehension, reasoning ability, divergent thinking, and general awareness. It consists of 50 multiple-choice questions carrying 2 marks each, totalling 100 marks. Paper II is subject-specific, based on the candidate’s postgraduate discipline—such as Physics (Code 705) in the case of physical sciences aspirants—and includes 100 multiple-choice questions for 200 marks, making the combined total 150 questions and 300 marks. The paper has no negative marking, which allows students to maximize their attempts strategically.

Eligibility criteria require candidates to hold a Master’s degree or equivalent from a UGC-recognized university with at least 55% marks (or 50% for SC/ST/BC/EWS/PwBD categories belonging to Jharkhand). Candidates appearing in their final year or awaiting results are also eligible to apply provisionally, provided they complete their qualification within two years from the declaration of JET results. There is no upper age limit for appearing in the exam, and candidates from other states are treated as unreserved unless they hold valid domicile certificates of Jharkhand. The application process is entirely online via the official JPSC portal (www.jpsc.gov.in), with a structured fee system—₹575 for General/EWS, ₹300 for BC-I/BC-II, and ₹150 for SC/ST/PwBD categories.

The JET 2024 syllabus for Paper II (Physics) aligns closely with standard postgraduate and UGC-NET-level syllabi, encompassing topics like Classical Mechanics, Quantum Mechanics, Electromagnetic Theory, Thermodynamics, Statistical Mechanics, Electronics, and Modern Physics, among others. The examination will be conducted across major districts of Jharkhand, and the question papers will be bilingual (English and Hindi), except for language subjects. Successful candidates will receive an official JET Eligibility Certificate issued by JPSC, enabling them to apply for Assistant Professor posts under Jharkhand’s universities and for Ph.D. programs under state-recognized institutions.
