The Orientation Course for Engineering Graduates and Science Postgraduates (OCES-2025) is a one-year training program conducted at BARC Training Schools. Selected candidates, known as Trainee Scientific Officers (TSOs), undergo intensive training in science and engineering. Those who successfully complete the course with at least 50% marks are appointed as Scientific Officers (Group-A, Level-10, ₹56,100 basic pay) in various DAE units including BARC, IGCAR, RRCAT, VECC, NPCIL, and others across India. High-performing TSOs may also receive credits toward M.Tech./Ph.D. under HBNI.
The DAE Graduate Fellowship Scheme (DGFS-2025) is a two-year program for selected engineering graduates who secure M.Tech. admission at recognized DGFS institutes. Candidates receive a stipend, tuition reimbursement, and project support during M.Tech., followed by a 4-month OCDF course. DGFS Fellows are appointed as Scientific Officers in DAE after successful completion.
Both schemes offer a stipend of ₹74,000/month during training. OCES candidates also receive a ₹30,000 book allowance, while DGFS fellows are additionally supported with a contingency grant and research funding up to ₹4,00,000. Final placement depends on performance and departmental requirements. Upon joining, total monthly emoluments are around ₹1.34 lakhs (in Mumbai), along with LTC, medical, and other government allowances.
Selection is based on an online screening test or GATE score, followed by an interview. Interviews are conducted at BARC Mumbai (or Hyderabad for Geology). Eligible candidates must fulfill age, academic, and discipline-specific requirements and execute a bond to serve DAE for a minimum of three years after training.
